George Washington's Birthday

In honor of his 278th birthday, here are some quotes attributed to George Washington. After you read them, think about how our elected leaders are behaving today. Not exactly what George had in mind, eh?

"Government is not reason, it is not eloquence, it is force; like fire, a troublesome servant and a fearful master."

"Let the reins of government then be braced and held with a steady hand, and every violation of the constitution be reprehended. If defective, let it be amended, but not suffered to be trampled upon whilst it has an existence."

"If the freedom of speech is taken away then dumb and silent we may be led, like sheep to the slaughter."
